Tuesday, February 23, 2009 (New York) As members of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) recently learned, gift wrapping skills can come in handy regardless of the season. About 20 union members kicked off a new partnership to support the charity Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. (K.I.D.S.) by volunteering to wrap donated baby toys that will be given to new mothers in a drug abuse recovery program in Manhattan. Click here for more info.

This video provides an overview about the programs and history of K.I.D.S. and includes our current Board Chairman Peter Rosenthal.

A briefer, general summary of K.I.D.S. is shown in this shorter video. To receive updates about new videos, don't forget to 'subscribe' to the K.I.D.S, Inc. channel on YouTube.

This video features both K.I.D.S. and our partner agency, Fashion Delivers. K.I.D.S. gives new, brand name products - clothes, shoes, books, toys, juvenile goods, personal care and educational products - to children and families in need through our network of more than a thousand local social services agencies. Working with the adult apparel, accessories and home furnishings industries, Fashion Delivers provides new clothing, shoes, furnishings and other items to adults and families in need, using the K.I.D.S. network of community agencies.

Our work with Operation Homefront to distribute new product to military families in need is featured in this video. For the last three years, All Baby & Child, Inc. (ABC), a national association of independently owned and operated juvenile product specialty stores, has provided a $150,000 grant to help K.I.D.S. distribute over $2 million worth of merchandise annually to military bases in 18 different states, touching up to 50,000 individuals.

Speaking at the December 4, 2006 gala for K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers, Barack Obama describes how Americans must overcome the country's deficit in empathy to address the needs of populations at risk in our society.
