Who We Are
K.I.D.S. brings hope and self-esteem to children in need and their families by providing new clothes, shoes, toys, furniture, books and juvenile products through a network of more than a thousand local social service agencies. These agencies serve youth in poverty-stricken communities through homeless shelters, foster-care facilities, hospitals, relief organizations, food banks and other programs in the U.S. and abroad.
Since 1985, K.I.D.S. has reached out to more than 64 million children in need by distributing more than a half billion dollars worth of new merchandise. With overhead costs consistently under 2.5% , K.I.D.S. is one of America’s most efficient charities, has earned Charity Navigator’s highest rating of four stars, and meets all standards set by the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance.
Donations for Children in Poverty
An all-time high of more than $62 million worth of new clothes, shoes, toys, books and juvenile products went to children and families in need in 2007. (see product donors)
Disaster Relief
When disasters strike, in the U.S. and abroad, K.I.D.S. responds quickly and efficiently. In 2007, more than $2.6 million worth of products were distributed to children and families driven from their homes by wildfires in Southern California. Within weeks of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, K.I.D.S. rallied the childrenswear, shoe, juvenile products, apparel and toy industries to provide, with its partner Fashion Delivers, more than $12 million of product for approximately 40,000 Gulf Coast flood victims.
Board of Directors
K.I.D.S. is governed by an active Board of Directors consisting of forty leaders from the retail, apparel, juvenile products, toy, shoe, development, finance, marketing, accessories and legal fields.
